Job Status: Full Time – Non-union

Reports to: Hydrographic Systems Manager



The primary role of this position is to provide hydrographic surveying, mapping and positioning support, reporting, land survey work and general survey support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 ·         Perform field hydrographic surveys collecting bathymetric and other data

·         Post process field data, compute quantities, create charts, and report

·         Calibration and trouble-shooting of dredge positioning systems

·         Reporting of bathymetric conditions, quantities and other pertinent data to colleagues and supervisors for review and direction

·         Quality Control and Production Tracking including preparing daily and weekly production reports

·         Collect, assemble, review and report production related materials and values

·         Perform field sediment sampling and reporting

·         Verify the precision of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites

·         Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys

·         Determine position and elevation of important features and boundaries in survey areas using precision hydrographic systems, GPS technologies, total stations and levelling instruments

·         Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and technical personnel, clients, and others

·         Train assistants and helpers, and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys

·         Adjust surveying instruments to maintain their precision

·         Analyze survey objectives and specifications to prepare proposals or to direct others in proposal preparation

·         Survey bodies of water to determine navigable channels and to secure data for construction of breakwaters, piers, and other marine structures

·         Conduct research in surveying and mapping methods using knowledge of techniques of bathymetric and other data

·         Develop criteria for the design  and modification of survey instruments

·         Ability to travel 75-100% of the time

·         Any other duties as assigned


Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

·         1-5 Years of experience within the hydrographic industry

·         A.S. or B.S. in Surveying and Mapping, Natural Resources or similar curriculum

·         Professional state license and or nationally recognized hydrographic certification

·         Experience utilizing bathymetric survey tools including single-beam and multi-beam echo-sounders

·         Experience using bathymetric process software

·         Experience using conventional survey tools including auto-levels, total station etc.

·         Ability to work successfully as a team member

·         Perform the work professionally, honestly, with integrity and a commitment safety and excellence

·         Willingness to work 12+ hours/day, nights and weekends depending on project schedules
