In 2012, THSOA inaugurated the THSOA HALL OF FAME. The primary purpose of the hall is to honor hydrographers who have made outstanding contributions to hydrographic science, who have had exemplary survey careers and who have shown dedication to the Society and its goals.

The HOF committee consisted of Chic Ransone (chairman), Larry Mayer, Andy Armstrong, Bill Bergen, Larry Whitmire, Wendy Post and Chris Andresen. Nine nominations were received and considered by the committee. It is our pleasure to announce our first inductees into the THSOA HALL OF FAME. The official induction will take place at the opening ceremonies of US HYDRO 2013 on Tuesday morning, 26 March 2013, at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans, LA.

Dr. Lloyd Huff “in recognition of your outstanding contributions towards the advancement of hydrographic science.”

Dr. Lloyd Huff received his Doctorate in Ocean Engineering in 1976 from the University of Rhode Island. For many years, he served in NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey (OCS) where he worked to integrate and improve multibeam sonars for use in shallow water hydrographic surveys. After a distinguished career at NOAA, Dr. Huff joined the staff at the U. of New Hampshire’s Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping as a research professor. He has written or co-authored multiple papers on hydrographic surveying with specific focus on multibeam sonars, sonar theory and sonar applications.

Doug Moore “in recognition of an outstanding career as a hydrographic surveyor and for your contributions in educating hydrographers”

Doug Moore began his surveying career as a rodman/chainman in 1965 with USACE Philadelphia District. Through the years, he continued his rise, winding up as the Chief of Surveys. In 2003, he joined Gahagan and Bryant as their survey manager. Throughout his surveying career, Doug Moore has been involved in the education of hydrographers. He served for several years as an instructor in the Corps of Engineers Hydrographic Surveying Course. He also served as a board member on the ACSM Hydrographic Certification Committee.

Jack Wallace “in recognition of your years of service and outstanding dedication to The Hydrographic Society of America”

For over 20 years, Jack Wallace has served THSOA in a variety of capacities. He has spent countless hours keeping track of members, making sure the bills were paid and the accounts were accurate. He has helped organize US HYDRO events and was responsible for the access of THSOA members to HYDRO magazine. THSOA is extremely thankful for his dedication and commitment to the society.
