THSOA encourages college/university students to consider a career in hydrographic surveying. Several student scholarships are offered to assist students with academic costs. The National THSOA scholarships are available to for full time students seeking a 2 year, 4 year or graduate degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Ocean Mapping, Geomatics, Ocean Sciences, Geographic Info Systems(GIS), Ocean Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields. The national scholarship program started in 2011. There have been 12 awards for a total of $35,000.

THSOA Scholarship to 61st UNB-OMG/UNH-CCOM Multibeam Sonar Training Course

The organizers of the UNB-OMG/UNH-CCOM Multibeam Sonar Training Course donated a scholarship to their 61st Training Course to THSOA. Forty two members of THSOA expressed an interest in the scholarship and were entered into the drawing. On 12 Sept, 2012, a blind drawing was held and the scholarship was awarded to Matthew Gardner. THSOA would like to express our thanks to the organizers of the Multibeam Sonar Training Course for their generous donation.

U.S. HYDRO 2013 Conference – Call for Papers

The U.S. HYDRO 2013 Conference, sponsored by The Hydrographic Society of America and hosted by the Louisiana Chapter, will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans · New Orleans, Louisiana on March 25-28, 2013. U.S. Hydro 2013 will be the 13th in a series of hydrographic conferences which alternate each year between the United States and Canada.

Authors are invited to submit abstracts for papers and/or posters for presentations at U.S. Hydro 2013.  Also included are workshops on current hydrographic surveying methods, a commercial exhibition, and a full schedule of technical sessions on the latest developments and applications in hydrography.  These topics are listed at http://www.hypack.com/ushydro/2013/program.aspx  .  The deadline for abstracts is October 28th, 2012.  For additional information, please visit the conference website at www.ushydro2013.com.
