    First meeting of The Hydrographic Society of America - New England Chapter will be held on Sep 13, 2018, 5-7pm

    The Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire have kindly offered to host the inaugural meeting of The Hydrographic Society of America – New England Chapter at their facility on Sep 13, 2018 at 5-7pm.

    New England area based members have previously been considered part of the National Capital Region, but this vibrant maritime region now has its own regional chapter and this is your opportunity to chart its course.

    This meeting will:

    - Confirm the appointment of Chapter Officers;

    - Determine Chapter goals;

    - Identify fundraising opportunities;

    - Consider student sponsorship;

    - Identify events that can support education in hydrography; and

    - Determine the region and date for the next Chapter meeting.

    Nominations for the positions of Secretary and Treasure are yet to be received.

    On completion of formal Chapter business the Co-Director of the Joint Hydrographic Center (Captain Andy Armstrong, NOAA (Ret.) https://ccom.unh.edu/user/aarmstrong) will give us a presentation on the Center, including the research efforts and provide a tour. Having been a guest or Andy before I can assure you that you will learn something.

    Following the presentation and tour we will move to the outside bar at Three Chimneys for refreshments, sponsors are invited to support this event.

    The first New England Chapter meeting with a guest speaker is most likely occurring in Durham Sep 13th. To generate interest in board positions and get agenda items from members down South who can't get up to NH, we are going to have an informal 'Blunders in the Pub' at the New World Tavern in Plymouth May 10 from 6-8pm.

    Over a beer or juice we can sit around a table and share our biggest survey mistakes or embarrassing survey story, say how we fixed it and what we learned from it.
