A Panel Discussion on Personnel in the Hydrographic Survey Industry
This panel discussion will be an open conversation between companies in the industry that regularly look for personnel for their production staff. Questions will cover where to find young professionals, how to train them, how to retain them, and what else can be done to secure a reliable base of qualified production staff.

 About the Speakers: 
Daniel Torres has been in the offshore survey industry for over 15 years. He started his career at Fugro Chance as an offshore acoustic surveyor and is currently the Senior Manager of Operations in Subsea Robotics at the survey division of Oceaneering. Daniel worked offshore for over a decade in the offshore survey industry with various roles including project coordinator, project surveyor and project manager. He now is looking after three regions and both Geosciences and Surveying & Positioning disciplines.

Washington Bryan is the Site Engineering Operations Manager at Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, and has been with the company for the last 28 years. His roles include scheduling and assigning project teams that meet project operational requirements, ensuring that all Site Engineer functions are successfully accomplished on each project, develops the maintenance of training systems, and assisting with on-hire and recruiting processes. 


Julian Martin started with Fugro Chance as an offshore surveyor in 1995, and has risen through the ranks to Staff Development Coordinator in 2008 and then his current position in 2014 as the Operations Support Manager in Houston. He currently leads a team that support their Marine Service business lines with multi-disciplined surveyors. Throughout his career he has focused on standardizing processes with a focus on operations, training, technical competencies and career development. 

 

Matt Meyer is the Managing Director of OARS Group and has over 20 years of experience in the industry.  OARS provides on-demand survey personnel worldwide and is focused on maintaining honesty and transparency between contractors and their clients.  OARS aims to ensure the success and longevity of individual contractors in the industry by providing training, support, and an environment where freelance professionals can provide quality services and excel in their chosen professions.
